CITY OF PORTLAND - OREGON TRAIL--EVERGREEN AVIATION & SPACE MUSEUM - FACTORY OUTLET STORE ADVENTURE - ALL-INCLUSIVE 'BOUTIQUE-STYLE- 1-DAY-TOUR' TO PORTLAND, OREGON, USA

Splendor and diversity abounds in Oregon. And few of Oregon’s regions display as much diversity into so small an area as the City of Portland and its surrounding areas. It is here that one finds the state’s largest city, the gateway to magnificent Columbia River Gorge and Oregon's highest scenic peak, Mt. Hood. Portland, Oregon christened itself the ‘City of Roses’ and combines historic brick buildings, complement modern glass and steel structures, parks replacing old industrial areas, and art tucked into playgrounds and office towers. Just south of this vibrant city is the first capital, Oregon City, the famous ‘End of the Oregon Trail’. A short distance to the west are the Dundee Hills with soft, rolling hills sprinkled with vineyards and boutique wineries. In McMinnville, one finds the huge 'iconic' spruce goose wooden airplane at the Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum. And nearby is the largest Outlet Shopping complex in Oregon.

Each tour is a 'small group' of only 8-10 travelers. Included is 'lunch', private ground transportation, and 'entrance fees' to all scheduled tour sights.

Each Roads2.Com tour is managed by a local Manager. All licensed tour guides are fluent in English, and 'interpreter assisted' options are available upon special request.

This City of Portland and surrounding area tour begins at the Portland, Oregon AMTRAK train station.

Daily Itinerary

8:30am – 11:30am

Itinerary in Portland begins with the Portland Aerial Tram atop the West Hills where you have a panoramic view of downtown with iconic white-capped Mt. Hood in the distance. Next is a visit to the largest and oldest International Rose Test Gardens in the USA, one of the most authentic Portland Japanese Garden outside of Japan, and the great Lan Su Yuan Chinese Garden treasure built by Chinese artisans. Beyond the splendid gardens is the Pearl District, a model of urban renewal and considered Portland’s premier shopping, dining, loft-living and many one-of-a-kind boutique stores. The Pittock Mansion and Oregon History Museum display Portland’s dramatic transformation from a small lumber community to part of the rich Oregon beginnings . The morning ends with a brief walk along the Willamette River in Tom McCall WaterFront Park.

11:45am – 1:00pm

Lunch at the Urban Farmer Restaurant

1:00pm – 2:00pm

Short drive to Oregon’s first capital, Oregon City. Visit the famous ‘End of the Oregon Trail’, that difficult journey made by 200,000 pioneers and covered wagons to settle the Oregon Country. The McLounghlin House was built in 1845 by Dr. McLounghlin, a Hudson’s Bay Co. representative who helped the settlers. Willamette Falls is where that river plunges 40 feet over a basaltic ridge. Nearby is the Municipal Elevator that lifts pedestrians 90 feet up the face of a bluff overlooking the downtown area and the falls.

2:00pm – 2:30pm

Short drive through the Dundee Hills, the heart and soil of Oregon Wine Country. Home to Oregon's earliest Pinot noir growing history, it is also fast becoming a fine-wine destination reminiscent of Burgundy, France. Visitors come from around the world to view the stunning 1,264 acres of boutique vineyards and to sample acclaimed wines in tasting rooms. This region is unique for its higher elevation, warmer nighttime temperatures, less low-elevation fog and frost, and lava-based s. These red hills showcase some of the most spectacular views of the northern Willamette Valley and beyond.

2:30pm - 4:30pm

Next is the Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum with displays ranging from the elegant aeronautic designs of two unknown bike mechanics – Orville and Wilbur Wright – to an actual Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird that can fly at speeds of over 2,000 miles per hour. The centerpiece of these aeronautic breakthroughs is the original Spruce Goose. Built entirely of wood due to wartime restrictions on metals, this massive airplane stands as a symbol of American industry during World War II.

Founded in the memory of Captain Michael King Smith, the exhibits celebrate the lives of innovators, pilots, and veterans who courageously pioneered flight in these remarkable machines. The Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum located in McMinnville, Oregon, has a little something for everyone.

4:30pm – 6:30pm
