About 250 delegates comprising travel agents, hoteliers and other members of the tourism industry attended the day-long conference that consists of an interactive panel speakers session, talks by prominent tourism and technology thought leaders of today, power-packed workshops and system demonstrations.

The speakers who shared their insights on market trends and innovations that are changing the way business is done include moderator Dale Lawrence of PATA; Mrs Paz Alberto, President of Phillipine Travel Agencies and Association; Dato’ Faudzi Naim, Chairman of IMT-GT, Joint Business Council; RJ Gurley, Project Director Asian Competitive Enhancement Project; Ghislain Le Chatelier, Head of Sales Google Singapore and Mr Mario Shiliashki, General Manager of Paypal Southeast Asia and India, Y.H.Lim, Grey Review and Rohizam Md Yusoff, CEO of Creative Advances Technology Sdn Bhd. This is the second of the SOTA series of international conferences.

Creative Advances Technology, a Malaysian owned MSC-status company, developed SOTA (Standard Online Tourism Architecture) which is the first of its kind business platform for the travel industry.

“SOTA offers a sustainable future for travel agents and suppliers within the travel and tourism industry. It provides a vital distribution and marketing channel to more than 1 billion consumers worldwide with 2 billion hits per month via a platform that brings travel and tourism suppliers such as airlines, hotels, holiday destination and even wedding photographers to travel agents and then connects travel agents to consumers “face to face,” explained Rohizam.

“In a nutshell, it gives travel agents an online presence they have never had before,” he added.

The company took 5 years to develop and perfect SOTA.

Rohizam shared that early adopters of SOTA have experienced up to 30% growth in business since using SOTA.

“At present we have over 900 users or travel agencies – local and foreign and 16,000 travel and tourism suppliers ranging from the usual such as airlines, car rentals, and hotels to non-traditional such as Thai kick-boxing event organisers and in the future even wedding planners,” he said.

Indeed, SOTA has captured the attention of travel associations around the world as well as major companies such as Google and Paypal and is poised to further revolutionise the global travel industry.
